I have several years experience tutoring students from elementary to high school to graduate level. I also have tutored students with developmental challenges.
The Director of Health Services wrote: "Several of the students he tutored had emotional problems and with his help they were able to show growth and progress in their academics."
In addition, I have extensive experience with software programs (Microsoft Suite and more), business operations and marketing skills to the top of the corporate level (I was the president and CEO of my own company).
I also have published seven collections of poetry and am working on my eighth. One of my works, "The Sonnet Collection of William Shakespeare: Translated & Analyzed," has sold in the United States and in Europe.
My ultimate goal as a tutor is that my student becomes thoroughly trained, enjoys the process, and is prepared for future growth. I also arrange to meet with the parent(s) to discuss their schedules, goals, concerns, and expectations. Then I meet with the student to review these goals and establish a relationship that significantly contributes to the educational process.
One reference states that I was found "to be dependable, hardworking and thorough. He was always very eager to see the students succeed." I will bring the same skills, experience, work ethic, and dedication for the educational advancement of your child. I can provide references of my tutoring experience as well. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Im my prior tutoring roles, one of my objectives was to prepare students for entry into the workforce. This involved assisting them with resumes, cover letters and job research. I taught my students to be proactive and knowledeable about all aspects of the application process.
I minored in English literature at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. I have read the works of Aristotle, Plato, Aristophanes, etc., to modern classic authors such as Poe, Hemingway, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Joyce, and many others. In my field of philosophy, I have also read the works of Hegel, Marx, Rousseau and Machiavelli, to begin with. I also took a special course of study on the works of William Shakespeare (at Boston State College).
I have also, regarding my poetic career, have read Shelley, Keats, Byron, and Gray, as well as other poets of renown as Yeats, and American poets, Poe, Frost, and T.S. Eliot. I have also published seven collections of poetry which is listed on Amazon/Kindle and on Barnes & Noble/NOOK as well as distributed by independent booksellers worldwide (I have had sales in the U.S., UK and Europe.)
I also run and manage a poetry site where I have posted the works of classic and contemporary poets. I also allow new artist to post there and post my own work.
I firmly believe I can impart my passion for the classics to my students and contribute to their understanding of these great authors and artists.
At the elementary level, I taught students elementary reading, math, science, and social studies, as well as how to follow classroom guidelines and instructions.
I have been in this educational field for over nine years and have tutored students at specifically this grade level (besides middle and high schools). I worked for the Governeur Centtral School District in New York and the Sanborn Regional School District here in New Hampshire. I have a Masters' Degree in Management (with a minor in English Literature).
I attempt to make the educational experience enjoyable for the student; I employ visual, auditory and kinesthetic approaches in an entertaining comfortable format (i.e., games. I enjoy knowing I have contributed to the academic progress of the student.
I worked in a corporate capacity for two software startup companies as a VP of Operations and Marketing. I also have served as the President and CEO of my own company, which incorporated marketing strategies as well. My graduate courses included Strategic Planning and Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, all components of a thorough marketing program.
As a tutor for the Gouverneur Central School District, my assignments included phonic instruction. I have had success with students with significant developmental difficulties.
In my professional career, my last position was an Outreach Coordinator III in which my primary role was giving healthcare presentations to the provider community, legal and social agencies. In my corporate career, I presented our software offerings at conferences and exhibits. In my political career, I (of course) needed to speak to the electorate at public gatherings. I also gave formal instruction to students in the are of how to speak to a prospective employer during the interview process.
I tutored students with cognitive challenges; the Director of the tutoring program wrote, "Several of the students...tutored had emotional problems and with his help they were able to show growth and progress in their academics." Also, as a substitute, I have been assigned to these students and have assisted them with their class instruction. It gives me much satisfaction to be able to contribute to the student's academic progress.
I have over nine years working with students, and, specifically, students with cognitive and behavioral challenges.
Besides the actual tutoring curriculum, note-taking, study, the learning process, organizational skills (including creating an agenda and calendar), I outlined expectations and the results were graded. Study skills are essential to the future academic success of these students.
I enjoyed my interaction with these students and their academic improvement.
