About Yulia

I have been teaching English to speakers of other languages since I was a college student studying English linguistics, literature, and TESOL. In 2008, I got my bachelor's degree in Linguistics and Teaching at N. Novgorod State Linguistic University and immigrated to the USA. Soon after, I enrolled in Southern New Hampshire University and in 2014 graduated with a master's degree in TESOL/TEFL with the GPA of 3.949. In the U.S., I have been working with ESOL students since 2009, primarily preparing them for college and teaching them academic reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and American culture. Not surprisingly, I know the TOEFL, SAT, and IELTs inside out, not only the skills required but also the traps set for the students and how to avoid them.

Working with ESOL students is what I do professionally six days a week at a local university, community college, and adult learning center. My students always call me a demanding but at the same time friendly teacher as I always make sure my students are comfortable with asking me questions and making errors, while learning intensively and wasting no time.

Last but not least, I learnt English myself. That is why I know exactly what my students need, what areas of English might be particularly confusing to them, how the structure of their native languages affects their language acquisition, and what I can do as a teacher to help them learn faster and better.

If any of the descriptions above didn't answer some of your questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

IELTS

I have been preparing students for the IELTS exam since 2011, and my students have shown great results by getting accepted into U.S. universities. Naturally, I am very familiar with the structure of the test and the skills being tested. Last but not least, I have a variety of textbooks for the IELTS preparation.

Praxis

I am very familiar with the Praxis I test because a few years ago I spent several weeks thoroughly preparing for this test to get certified in TESOL in New Hampshire. I scored 180 and above in each of the sections: reading, writing, and math. Since then, I have also prepared a few students for Praxis I.

Russian

I am a native speaker of Russian and have taught Russian to American adult and school students since 2010.

TOEFL

7 years of experience of both PBT and IBT TOEFL preparation. MS TEFL degree.

Scored 617 on the TOEFL PBT on the first try

Yulia is a very knowledgeable, friendly, and skilled teacher. I felt very comfortable asking her questions, and her explanations were very clear. She easily pointed out the skills I need to work on, explained how to get a score above 600 on the paper-based TOEFL, recommended great resources, and, as a result, I scored 617 on the TOEFL PBT on the first try. I highly recommend Yulia to other studen
