Lyric Mezzo and Vocal Coach Ellen N. has been a professional singer and vocal coach for more than two decades in northern New England. She teaches and coaches students of all ages with a perspective that encompasses considerations of both sides of the keyboard. Ms. N. is especially well versed in coaching students who are performance- and audition-bound. Many of her high school age students are accepted into conservatories such as Berklee School of Music, Boston Opera Institute, Hartt School Of Music, and Westminster Choir College.
Additionally, her students typically place as high scorers or finalists in both All State competitions as well as in National High School competitions such a the NATS Art Song and Musical Theater Festivals. Some of her students have appeared on American Idol, The Voice, America's Got Talent, Star Search and at the MET and NYC Opera. She also coaches students in Miss America Pageants. Among those performers, at least three have sung for NH Governor Hassan, Senator Shaheen, Congresswoman Kuster, as well as for Presidents Obama and Clinton.
While Ms. N. has trained in operatic performance in her work as an Undergraduate at the University of Chapel Hill, as an intern with the Lake George Opera in NY and with the Rome Opera Festival in Italy, she prides herself on vocal coaching for the burgeoning musical theater aspirant and for professional singers. I have been a voice instructor for more than 20 years at school's such as the Concord Community Music School, St. Paul's School, Phillips Exeter, Dartmouth College, Plymouth State, Colby Sawyer, and at UNH.
Having been a professional singer for 30 years, I know both sides of the keyboard as it were. Additionally, I have had grants through the Lila Wallace Foundation to study speech pathology via the Harvard Medical School and pride myself in healthy vocal instruction and proactive vocal practices. I frequently coach Italian diction clinics as I also sang and taught in Rome, Italy. I especially enjoy working with singers who want to learn their craft no matter the genres and consider myself the Mary Poppins of voice teachers with several tricks in my teaching arsenal of a bag.
