I am passionate about reading. Proficient reading skills are essential for a strong foundation for children's success in school. I am an Orton-Gillingham trained teacher. The Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory approach to reading and writing has proven successful for decades in teaching struggling and dyslexic readers. Being a New Hampshire certified elementary school teacher, I have used this intensive, sequential, phonics-based system in teaching small groups and one on one tutoring. I have tutored privately for five years. I have worked with struggling readers, bringing them to a level where they have graduated from their IEP's in reading. What a thrill it is to see the change in a students abilities and confidence to go from hating to read to loving it! If your child is one who hates to read because it is so difficult, tutoring for one hour a day, two to three days a week can make a huge difference in his or her attitude and success in school. A tutoring session would work sequentially through the phonemes and phonics rules, working from simple to more complex reading and writing skills following the Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence. I tutor in my home or yours for one hour a day, two or three days a week. I help students with reading assignments from school class and spelling tests. I can help your struggling reader be successful and become a child who can't put a book down.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
