With a BA in history (minor in math) from Dartmouth College and a master's of library and information studies from URI, my skills encompass a wide range of subjects. My specific teaching and tutoring experience includes 15 years at a boarding school for boys where my duties included teaching research skills, the writing process, and reading and study skills. In addition to these classes, I taught algebra and tutored students in all academic studies. As part of the Language Learning Lab faculty, I was always available to help any student with any of their studies. Prior to these 15 years, I was involved in teaching the research process to college students and editing papers and thesis projects. I easily connected with students one-on-one to find the best methods to help them learn.
So, having served in the academic field for over 25 years, I have had the great pleasure to have known and interacted with many students; and as a result I have come to one certainty: As a teacher, I believe strongly in establishing a comfortable working relationship with my students where there is not only trust, but a willingness on both parts to push the boundaries of learning. As a result, when a student hits a stumbling block, and they will, the rapport we have developed encourages the child to ask for help; knowing that I, as their teacher, will be understanding and nonjudgmental. I believe the working relationship between a student and their teacher must be both compassionate and accepting so the child can gain confidence in their academic performance, knowing that I (as their teacher) will be there to sustain and guide them along their way. This belief serves as the foundation of all the services that I deliver.
That being said, I offer tutoring services in a broad range of subjects, from basic mathematics through algebra 2, history at all levels, English at all levels, ESL working with students from Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Spain to name a few. Research and study skills are another area I am very skilled at, as is editing. I have edited papers from the simple high school essay through the PhD thesis process. I have worked with students from the elementary level through the doctoral level. Throughout, I have always experienced a high rate of success with the students I have tutored or coached; and as such, I stand ready to meet your needs.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College I took many math courses. Algebra I and II were necessary to continue in further math courses. I also worked with many students at a private boarding school teaching Algebra I.
I took Algebra II during my undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College. I also have tutored Algebra II during the 15 years I was a faculty member at a private boarding school. Math is one of my strong points and many students have benefited from my knowledge.

I have a Masters of Library and Information Studies, with a focus on elementary and secondary education. I have worked with 2nd through 9th grades with literacy, reading, writing and learning skills. I have worked at a private boarding school for 15 years; and for 14 summers I worked in their educational camp that focused on both enrichment and remedial education in grades 2nd through 9th.
For over 15 years I have worked with ESL students from many different countries. I have had students from Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. I have taught basic language skills, as well reading and writing in English.

As a faculty member associated with the reading & study skills/language learning lab at a private boarding school, phonics where included as part of the curriculum. For 15 years I aided students using phonics as well as other techniques to ensure they learned literacy skills that would enable them to progress throughout their studies.
