##### About Melissa

Hello! My name is Melissa and I have been a teacher for eight years, four years in a middle school and 4 years in an elementary school. I have enjoyed my time working with students and helping them achieve their academic goals. I am looking for a less traditional setting to continue to encourage students to find their confidence in their educational travels. I am a mother to 2 little boys and love watching how they explore and learn from the world around them.

I have attended multiple math conferences held for educators in the elementary setting over the past 8 years. I am also trained in Everyday Math and Pearson 2.0 math. I have strength in the 8 math practices and how they can be used to improve a students daily use and language with their math skills.

While attending Keene State College I minored in Geography. I studied how our Earth was formed, where physical landforms are and how they got there. I also studied in depth many of the countries across the globe and focused locally on our country and what natural hazards impact each region.

During my time as an Elementary Education teacher I spent four hours a month dedicated to curriculum work surrounding Lucy Calkins Readers workshop and helping develop a students stamina and deeper understanding of their informational and fictional texts. In addition to this experience my district was also using Lucy Calkins Writers workshop model to help develop a stronger sense of writing with students.

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Keene State College and hold a certification as a K-8 teacher within the state of New Hampshire. My first three years of teaching I taught Title One Reading to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. During the next five years of my career I alternated between 6th, 5th, and 4th grade traditional classroom settings. I had the opportunity to teach all subject areas and develop a stronger understanding of the state standards with hands on activities and student lead inquiry.

I am eager to begin meeting new students and finding ways to develop lessons to help them succeed in their academic goals. I love hands on learning and having fun with new discoveries. The use of technology is also a very handy tool in learning about the world around us and researching the answers to many questions. I look forward to hearing from prospective students!
