I am a NH-certified, highly-qualified, K-6 elementary educator. I have taught children in classrooms, as a private tutor, and in a variety of educational programs in public and private settings for 16 years. My goal in working with children is to develop the confidence, build the skills, and inspire the passion for learning that will last them a lifetime. I have a special interest in working with fearful or reluctant learners, who tend to respond well to my patient and positive approach. I also have experience working with children who have had a variety of special needs.

I earned a BA with high honors from Middlebury College in Vermont having studied Psychology, French, and Teacher's Education. I earned a post-baccalaureate certificate in Family Literacy from Penn State and am currently working on a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on Dyslexia Studies & Language-Based Learning Disabilities from Southern New Hampshire University. I enjoy being a student as much as I do being a teacher!

I approach my tutoring work by visiting with parents and the student first to understand the educational concerns or needs, along with the goals of the tutoring. I will then create an outline of an individualized learning plan, offer a recommendation for the length and frequency of sessions, and address any other relevant issues. Once an agreement is reached, we can move forward with the work right away. I welcome parent and student feedback and, because of the personalized approach, am willing to make adjustments at any point along the way.

Math has patterns, a logic to it, and concepts that build on themselves in layers over time. I enjoy helping students discover how math can be useful, purposeful, and powerful in their lives. Sometimes, students experience anxiety with math, and I work to isolate the areas that are confusing or difficult so that a student can master those and be able to move forward. My goal is for students to understand concepts and develop strong computational skills and mental math abilities. I tend to use a lot of hands-on activities to help make concepts more understandable.

Reading is one of the most important activities for children to do in order to be a successful student. I enjoy sharing my passion for reading and love the challenge of helping students find interesting reading material that works for them. I carefully select a variety of quality non-fiction and fiction texts that I think your child will enjoy using. I integrate grammar, phonics, and vocabulary into reading and writing lessons so that students understand how it all works together.

Neat handwriting makes it easy for people to read the important things that students write. Strengthening finger skills and learning proper holding techniques help students improve their handwriting, along with lots of practice! I teach both printing and cursive and use a variety of techniques to help students master these skills.

I offer a free initial consultation for up to 1 hour. Sessions are generally 1 hour of instruction followed by up to 15 bonus minutes to provide parents with information on how the session went and to answer any questions. I appreciate at least 24 hours of notice for a cancellation, but I understand that life sometimes gets in the way with illness and emergencies. I simply ask that you call or text as soon as possible to cancel. I reserve the right to charge a $15 fee per session and/or discontinue services if cancellations are for reasons beyond illness/emergency or become excessive. Let's move your student toward success today!
