About Jessica

I have been teaching English in a public high school setting for 6 years (all grade levels--advanced to remedial). What first brought me to teaching was my love of learning and of English (literature, writing, grammar, etc.). However, when I started to teach, I loved so much more than just the subject; it was the the connections I formed with my students as I helped them master a specific skill that I loved as well. What makes teaching so special to me is the progress I can see in each student and ultimately the confidence each student has once they succeed.

I have extensive experience in teaching reading and writing to all grade levels. I can assist with basic essay construction, and I can also assist with more advanced writing assignments (i.e. a college essay). Likewise, I can help students make their way through a piece of literature. In addition to those two categories, I can also teach students about the new SAT reading and writing portion.

Please feel free to contact me and set up a time to meet.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
