Bachelors of Arts, York College, York, NE (Middle Grades)
My love of teaching comes from seeing student success. Nothing is more awesome than seeing the light come on in the students mind when they have figured out how to do something. I began working in a school environment 12 years ago as a Para-educator while taking classes at my local college to get my teaching certificate. Until my student teaching, I was mostly working in the special education programs and with students struggling with a certain subject; I also began substitute teaching part-time. My only trouble was deciding which area of education to study. I enjoy working with students of all ages and all subjects, but I narrowed things down to a Middle Grades degree with a focus in History and Business. After getting my degree I continued to substitute teach in my local public and private schools in addition to the surrounding area schools (about 12). In the last year I have also been working as a substitute at a Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center, working with troubled teens to help them to complete their high school education, but also figuring out how to be successful in life.
As stated earlier, I specialize in History and Business, but love learning and working with students of all ages (K-12). I want to challenge my students, but also keep them comfortable in their learning path. Once I find out what my student is learning I can create lessons and assessments around the subject matter, following up with a progress report.
I believe it is very important to collaborate with the student and parents so that I can make sure the learning environment created is the best fitted to the student and their needs. Learning should be fun, so my goal is to make each and every student successful.
I am very flexible with my tutoring times, but I do ask for a minimum of a 24 hour notice if we need to reschedule. I will travel to the student, allow students into my home, or come up with a public study domain (library) to give the student the most comfortable learning atmosphere.
I look forward to hearing from you and can't wait to have the opportunity to help you succeed! Hello, Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The degree I hold covers 4th through 9th grade. My Middle Grades degree required me to take "How to Teach" courses for elementary-level core classes. I have been a substitute teacher in pre-school through 6th grade class rooms.
