Northen Illinois University (Elementary Education)
Hi! I'm Sandy. I've tutored in the Millard school system for the last few years, and previously I was a student teacher. I love reading, grammar, spelling and speaking to groups. I especially love putting kids at ease and helping them overcome any obstacles in their way of success! I went to school to be a teacher, but somehow, life took me down another path and here I am!
I have 3 children of my own, 19, 16 and 9. They're not big readers, but we enjoy reading together on occasion. I look forward to helping, guiding and cheering-on anybody I'm fortunate enough to help!
Not only do I thoroughly enjoy reading, I'm pretty darn good at it! I've tutored 3rd and 4th graders in English, Reading and Grammar throughout the years and have had great success.
I'm extremely patient when it comes to handwriting. It does not come easily for some, and that includes me, when I was younger. I had to go to a tutor myself, and I've never forgotten the long hours they put forth to help me.
I'm excited to get started and to get you going on the path to success! We will take "boring" reading assignments and put some life into them. You'll retain what you've read, and do well on the tests! Your handwriting and Grammar can and will improve...we just need some time to work together. Let's get started soon! Hi! I'm Sandy. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While I was a student teacher, I found myself in a handwriting unit where the kids were really struggling. Nobody had ever really focused on this area with them, and it showed. Patience, guidance and many hours of instruction turned into many beautifully written thank-you notes at the end of the school year.
I have attended courses and then taught classes on this topic of public speaking throughout my career. Applying concentration techniques and relaxation strategies, most of us can overcome fears and anxiety associated with this task. I can appreciate the fears, however, as I was a terrified college student in my first Speech class when I passed out in class. I knew then that I had to figure something out quickly to pass the class and succeed. Since then, I've taught numerous classes, spoken to large groups and coached others to do so successfully.
I have tutored other kids in Millard and also in Papillion. They've been successful and we've had fun while learning.
