University of Nebraska at Omaha (History)
I previously received a Bachelor of the Arts in History from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and now am currently enrolled back in the same school in pursuit of a second degree, this time in Secondary Education.
As I continue to broaden my education in hopes of ultimately becoming a certified teacher, I would find it extremely rewarding to be able to tutor along the way. Tutoring would be quite beneficial in helping me continue to evolve as a professional, but more than anything it would be so rewarding to help the student realize their potential and accomplish any goals which they have set out for themselves. Life can be difficult, and sometimes people just need a helping hand.
I plan on letting the student lead during our initial sessions. This way, I can better get a feel for what exactly is hindering their learning experience. As it becomes clear, it will then be my job to steer the student in the direction best suited for their particular learning preference. Remember, we all learn at different rates and in different ways. My goal is not to add any further stress and work to their already busy workload, but to take what they have been given and provide it in a way that more suits them individually.
Over the course of my studies, my focus has been on American History, but also subsequently on English Literature. Utilizing what I have learned thus far, I would be effective in tutoring in History, Literature, Reading, and Social Studies for students of all ages, focusing on elementary through high school levels. Being that I am a first time tutor, my rate is quite low in comparison to other tutors, available at $35 per hour.
I am able to help the student either online or in person, whichever is more convenient. In person, I will be available between the hours of 9 AM and 9 PM, while online my hours may extend accordingly. In person, I would be willing to travel to meet the student, preferably in a public setting such as a coffee shop, library, or bookstore, all environments which coincide with learning quite well and leave little room for distraction.
Learning is an experience best shared, so please feel free to contact me at any time. If you have any questions, I look forward to helping you with all obstacles currently in your way so that your education no longer becomes a burden, but a blessing. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
