In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a current certified teacher through the State of Nebraska. My teaching certificate states I am eligible to teach K-8 (this my undergraduate degree). I also have my Early Childhood Endorsement, which states I can teach Pre-K-3.
I taught writing at the elementary school level. I am a former elementary school teacher, taught for 7 years. Handwriting, in our school, was integrated into the curriculum. I did teach a separate course on "writing."
As a former elementary school teacher, I taught grammar and phonics, as part of the curriculum. I taught each subject on alternating days. It was direct instruction, where I stood at the overhead and students would complete their worksheets.
I taught a public speaking course, Public Speaking 1650, to international students at a local university. I also was on the Debate Team in high school and have judged many debate/speech tournaments for local school districts.
I taught a "Pathways to Success" course at two universities. I used the book, "The Master Student" by Dave Ellis. On the pieces from that book that I taught was, "study skills." This section provided students with the skills they needed to become better studiers and better managers of their time, as well as how to become better test takers.
