Hello my name is Ms. Ruth. I am a certified teacher who just left the teaching field after 8 years to be a stay at home mom. I have a husband, two daughters, two dogs, and two cats.
I love to make learning fun, exciting, and as stress free as possible through games, songs, stories, and movement. The more senses you use while learning the better you remember! This is my first time as a home based tutor but I have plenty of experience tutoring within the classroom. In fact those were my most favorite times working one on one and helping my students reach their goals and watching their confidence grow. I can't wait to do the same with you!
I love to read and get students excited about reading. I am up to date on various reading strategies that promote accuracy, comprehension, and voice in both fiction and non fiction text.
I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade math and math strategies. I have also helped to in school tutor K-6 math. I am experienced in new math strategies and language.
I have taught using the Words Their Way program which is a phonics based spelling curriculum program. It focuses on sounds as well as patterns.
Having just left being a teacher I understand the language and strategies that your teachers are trying to help you learn in school. I understand that feeling/being behind in your learning can be frustrating, make you angry, upset, or even embarrassed. The great thing about having a tutor is no one at school needs to know you have one and you are getting the one on one help you need! I can't wait to help you succeed! Hello my name is Ms. Ruth. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified for this area because I am a certified k-8 teacher. I have taught in elementary schools for 8 years as a certified teacher and 1 year as a certified substitute teacher. I have experience teaching 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades.
