My method of teaching is to explain the session's material in multiple ways to ensure the clients hears the information in a way that makes sense to him or her followed by assigning the student a few practice problems so that he or she can cement the information for themselves.
I am a firm believer in the concept-based approach as opposed to memorization. Doing this helps them to understand the underlying concepts for themselves and get good grades because they are able to complete their homework and tests on their own, not because they are good at copying what I write. My daughter just had her first tutor session with David and what a great experience. He is extremely professional, easy to contact, and exhibits a great demeanor for both parents and student. My daughter, who was skeptical at first, was amazed how he was able to break down the math portions and show her not just "how" but "why" with each problem in just an hour (which she said went by fast). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to teach ACT Math because of my experience as a student as well as a tutor. As a student I took an ACT class before actually taking the test so I got to see what was helpful and not helpful from a student's point of view. When I took the test I got a 31 composite which enabled me to get two full-ride scholarships. As a college student I have taken Algebra and Trigonometry classes to increase my knowledge and I have learned many test-taking tips in general that will help students succeed. My experience in tutoring has given me the ability to pass this knowledge on to my clients.
I have over 13 years of experience in Algebra. I have taken Calculus I, II and III as a student and am currently taking Differential Equations and have used Algebra constantly throughout my Math career. As a student majoring in Architectural Engineering who attended an engineering magnet high school I have had over eight years of training for the building industry, specifically in Architecture and Building Engineering. I had the rare opportunity to participate in a project while I was in high school to take part in the design of an addition to the school which was actually built. My peers, my instructor and I received a special award for the project and to this day (about six years later) it is still gaining national attention. I will be interviewed within a matter of days at the time of this writing by a faculty member from MIT who will be using the addition as a case study for her own doctoral project on successes in urban education. I am a junior in college studying Architectural Engineering who has used AutoCAD for over 12 years. I would classify myself as an expert in the program, having taken many classes and logged many hours of using the program. I have completed assignments for school, projects for real-world clients and plans for my own around-the-house projects among many other things using the program. I have AutoCAD Architecture 2013 on my personal laptop so bringing the program with me to tutoring sessions will not be an issue.
I have had over six years experience in studying the Bible. I use an expository teaching method as opposed to topical and use the e-Sword computer program for supplemental information. As an undergraduate Architectural Engineering student in my junior year I have had lots of experience using Revit and even have it on my personal laptop. I am almost finished as of the time of this writing becoming certified as an Autodesk Building Performance Analysis Student Expert. I can model structures, create many kinds of schedules, produce renderings and every other kind of view possible as well as completing solar and energy analysis. I recently made a Revit model of our old apartment complex complete with many different views and would be happy to bring it to a free of charge introduction session so you can see my quality of work before committing to anything.
I have been exposed to good running habits since before I could even walk. My dad has run almost every day for over 30 years (longer than I've been alive) and has completed well over 20 competitive races. He has passed on a lot of knowledge to my over the years as far as proper technique and conditioning methods.
I have been running myself for over 14 years. I began running by competing in the 800 meter and 1 mile races in junior high. My eighth grade year I was the anchor leg of the city champion sprint medley team for the King Science Center Wildcats.
In high school I ran the mile and 2 mile in track as well as cross country all four years. Between the two I lettered a total of six times and I was a captain on the cross country team my senior year.
Since high school I have stayed in good shape and continue to run at least twice a week. At the time of this writing I am less than 24 hours away from running in the 2013 Red Kettle Run 5K, which is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army. I am currently training to run in the 2014 Omaha Marathon as well.
Even if long-distance running or running in general is not your main forte I can help anyone who wants to get into good physical condition. Honestly speaking I will push you hard but you will be amazed at the results you will be able to achieve.

In Trigonometry once the student is able to quickly recognize the concepts applied in the problem success naturally follows.
I have been writing by choice for over five years. I journal at least once a day and have completed many essays which I would be happy to share with any client wishing to see. I use and teach the free writing method so clients can hone their creativity. I have not had any post-high school education in writing but I did receive a 35 on the English portion of my ACT both times I took it so I am able to integrate correct grammar and punctuation into my lessons.
