Creighton University (English)
My name is Dominique; I'm a freelance copy editor and writer. I'm also a student at Creighton University, pursuing my second bachelor's degree in English/Creative Writing.
I've had multiple experiences assisting students and youth with homework and test preparation; including acting as an after school supervisor at Kids Club at Portal Elementary, and currently as the Junior Youth Group assistant at Temple Israel.
I'm very nurturing and patient when it comes to helping students with their English homework and test preparation. I am able to assist with comprehension, writing (grammar, syntax, story development), reading, and vocabulary.
A typical tutoring session would include a quick fuel break- after a long day at school, who wouldn't need a snack?- where we would discuss the challenges your student is facing, and what outcomes he/she expects or is striving for. Next, we would review some materials from the students' class/school lesson to determine any areas of weakness/struggle. I am constantly reviewing the latest educational models and methods, and feel it necessary to tailor learning experiences to the student.
Naturally, the next step would include combating the students' weaknesses with innovative and effective learning methods; and making the student comfortable with the material. After we've reviewed and explored these methods, I would assist your student with their homework, or allow them to complete a workbook or learning activity that I have developed. The end of our session would include a quick review of the new material we have just studied/completed, as well as a question and answer session for you and your student.
I feel that tutors should always be available for questions, so my tutoring sessions include one week of "phone time." Essentially, "phone time" means your student would be able to call or email me with any questions regarding the previous tutoring session at no additional charge. If new issues present themselves (i.e. New material is covered, etc), I would then suggest an additional tutoring session.
Thank you so very much for reviewing my profile. I hope to speak with you and your student soon!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently an English major at Creighton University, and have assisted students with their English homework in an after school setting.
I am extremely well-read, often devouring upwards of four books per month. I have a love of classic literature (Shakespeare, Dickens, Saphho, Bronte, etc) as well as an affinity for pop lit (Twilight, Harry Potter, etc).
