University of Nebraska (Education)
My experience as a writer, teacher, student and researcher has helped me become great with language, composition, and more. I have a degree in Journalism and another degree in 7th through 12th grade Language Arts Education, so I am well prepared to help students with whatever they are studying. From novel study to essays, poetry, news writing, grammar, reading for comprehension or purpose, and much more, I've had experience learning, studying, and teaching junior high and high school English curriculum.
After being a student for 23 years, I have embarked upon a road of transitioning from student to teacher. My degree in education which was completed earlier this year covered a vast array of topics in language, literature, the nature of teaching, educational philosophy and pedagogy, and I am constantly reading about new trends in education and learning. My personality is one of professionalism and I have a strong desire to mentor young learners. I hope that my love of education, my diligence as a student and teacher, and my convictions towards the English language will rub off on my students.
Reading, writing, publishing, grammar, vocabulary, and journalism are my strong suits, but I'd like to believe that my background has given me versatility and confidence to teach any sort of language arts curriculum your student is studying. Eric has been tutoring my son for a few weeks and he has nothing but good things to say about Eric. We both think Eric is a very nice guy. My son appreciates the one-on-one attention provided by Eric, opposed to the lack of attention in public school. Thus far, Eric is helping my son with the information and skills he needs to be a better student. I'm looking forward to what else he can provide my son in our continued tutoring sessions. Expect more reviews to follow.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

The skills needed to coach and tutor writers who are in middle-to-high grades are learned in the elementary setting and I have a mastery of the writing process, editing, revising, publishing and much more. I want to use those skills to help younger students become better prepared to write as they proceed through their educational careers.

I am certified to tutor English, grammar, writing, proofreading, handwriting, literature and more related to Language Arts. I understand the importance of quality penmanship as this can create a barrier between students and teachers. I will do my best to improve your child's physical writing and approach to composition.
