University of Nebraska-Omaha (Biology,Mathematics)
Hello everyone. My name is Alavi. I am a senior undergraduate at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where I am studying Biology and Mathematics.
My goal is to attend Pharmacy school after I graduate. For the majority of my life I lived in Kearney, Nebraska where my father is a Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Because of his rich background in mathematics, I developed the same qualities in academia. I was in HAL (High Ability Learners) math courses from 3rd grade through 8th grade. Math Counts, a state mathematics competition held every year for 5th-8th grade students who qualified, was a big part of my life. I placed in the individual top 10 for districts ever year. My ACT score in High School was a composite 32 with a perfect 36 in the math section. Among only two other students in my grade, I took AP Calculus my junior year of High School and received a perfect score of 5 on the AP test. Throughout college thus far I have taken courses in Calculus, and Statistics.
Through these experiences and my father's methods of teaching, I was able to become a great student and teacher. My younger siblings and peers always seek my assistance when faced with a mathematical dilemma. I have helped many of my friends with Math and was a part-time tutor to a neighbor of mine in Kearney. I have also helped grade papers for Mathematics Professors at the University of Nebraska-Kearney over the Summers. I enjoy tutoring students because I believe the mastery of a subject comes through many teachers and learning styles. It is a passion of mine to help spread knowledge to people who seek it. Not only do I consider it my duty to teach a specific subjects thoroughly, I also try to ingrain good study habits that can be transferred to other topics in school. While I do take this position seriously, I make sure to keep a relaxed environment so that the student does not feel pressured while learning. I can always entertain a good sense of humor. Subjects I am proficient in include Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, and Calculus. Outside of mathematics, I can tutor in basic Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and History.
My only goal is to help you learn so that you have a brighter future ahead of you! I hope to hear from you soon. Hello everyone. My name is Alavi. I am a senior undergraduate at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where I am studying Biology and Mathematics.

Our 17-year-old son had fallen behind in his Algebra 6 assignments and reluctantly admitted he wasn't sure how to do the work. We contacted Alavi for help getting him back on track. Our son enjoyed working with Alavi and indicates he understands the work now. We will be sure to call upon Alavi in the future when and if more help is needed. All in all, it was a very positive tutoring experience.
Alavi was easy to reach and very accommodating. We were able to set up a session the evening I contacted him. He was very thorough in explaining the concepts to my daughter.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken advanced courses in trigonometry and calculus which require an in depth understanding of basic geometry. Any problems you have understanding the material can be cleared up so that you can gain a thorough understanding of the subject.
