As a certified elementary school teacher, I have been teaching for over 11 years - in Canada, Korea, Germany, and now here in Omaha, for OPS. My love of teaching stems from my desire to build confidence - to see that look of pride in a child's eyes when they realize they ARE as intelligent as we know them to be.
While teaching in various countries, I have tutored students in ESL, English and Math (Elementary level) both during teaching breaks and after school. Each and every one of the students I have tutored have improved in the subject we studied, and I certainly felt a certain level of satisfaction from helping them achieve their goals and build their level of self confidence. While living/teaching in Korea, about ten years ago, I also tutored high school and college-aged students in reading, writing (college entrance essays), and conversational English.
My degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology, and a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education, as well as an ESL endorsement from Concordia, obtained two years ago. While I live a very busy life as a wife, a mom, a teacher, and co-owner of a café, I would still like to do what I can to help children outside of my school be successful and proud of their accomplishments. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
