Northwest Missouri State University (Political Science)
Nebraska College of Law (J.D.)
I am a life-long learner looking to assist students in reaching their own academic goals. I graduated from the Northwest Missouri State University honors program with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Deaf Studies (American Sign Language). I am currently a second year law student at the Nebraska College of Law.
My own academic journey has allowed me to cultivate a hard-working spirit and gain a deep understanding of the subjects I specialize in. As an undergraduate, I became certified as a master-level tutor and tutored students individually in a variety of subjects. I also spent two years working as a supplemental instructor for American Government, a job for which I held three hour-long group tutoring sessions each week for government students. These positions allowed me to develop my tutoring abilities and work with a wide range of students.
I want each student to be challenged in my sessions but my goal is never to overwhelm a student. I work at the student's pace and will do whatever is necessary to help each student reach their academic goals. I have experience working with students who are struggling and students who simply want to get ahead. My goal is to facilitate comfortable, student-oriented sessions for each student.
I received scores of 35 on both the English and Reading section of the ACT when I took it myself. I have a strong ability to help students strategize on these sections of the ACT and read the passages effectively, with an eye towards what the test will likely ask of them.
I also excel at writing and proofreading. I do not rewrite papers for students but I have spent many tutoring sessions and sessions with friends proofreading papers and pointing out areas of improvement. I am not afraid to point out errors but I'm also willing to assist each student in correcting writing errors and improving papers or other writing passages.
I specialize in the areas of political science and history. I am passionate about the study of politics, most specifically American Government, American History, Political Theory and Law. I believe that these areas, which can be taught dryly, can come alive. Although it is not every student's passion, I believe that a basic understanding of these topics are vital to every citizen. I am able to assist advanced college students in these areas, as well as students who are struggling with required government, civics, and social studies classes.
I would love to hear from you, whether you are a parent of a student or a student looking for a tutor yourself. I am friendly, non-judgmental, and excited to help you learn! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
