About Emily

I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in English and an endorsement in education. I have substitute taught in two different districts where I repeatedly get requested by teachers, especially in the English field. I believe this fact is because educators and administrators recognize I have a strong love for the English language, and I especially believe one must adhere to the traditional English values that make this language so great while still believing in flexibility and creativity. Therefore, I believe we should challenge the norms of our language while still appreciating and recognizing what makes the language so great.

My strongest areas within the field of English are grammar and writing. I have received several awards for creative writing due to these two strengths throughout the years, including one from the English department at UNL. I have also been personally praised by several professors at UNL for my high writing ability. I believe I can use these qualities to benefit those I teach. If you are looking for someone who has fresh ideas, is passionate about English, and who is knowledgeable in the English world of grammar and writing, I believe I am the person who can challenge and motivate you to do well and succeed.

Sadly, schools are not teaching grammar/usage anymore, but my English teacher in high school emphasized it, so I am extremely knowledgeable in these areas. The understanding of how grammar and usage of how the English language works is essential to being a great writer. I believe I have a strong grasp on these concepts, which makes me also great at writing. I do have an emphasis on creative writing, but I am strong in all areas. I am also great at proofreading because of my strengths listed above. All of these things go hand-in-hand to make a great writer and teacher, and I would not disappoint anyone who came to me with any grammar, usage, writing, reading, or proofreading questions/projects/work.

I want YOU to succeed, so I am extremely flexible. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. I am passionate about English because I believe words fuel our society, and the ability to communicate is what makes mankind successful; thus, writing is such a great tool to continue and pass on our journey as humans to future generations. I would love to help you in any way I can--no matter your level or English needs. I am highly qualified and would look forward to helping anyone who was seeking help! Thanks!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
