About Jack

Hello, My name is Jack. I'm on wyzant because I love to teach. It's my passion and it is what I want to do with my life. It gives me great pride to help students grow and learn. I'm a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney and I hold a bachelor's degree in social science education (history, government and politics, econ, civics, ect). Since my graduation in December of 2012 I served as a substitute teacher for LPS until the fall of 2014. During my time as a sub I helped out in multiple schools across the city in every grade and every subject. It was a great experience for me to be able to work with all kind of different students from different demographics and the experience has helped me to become a better teacher. At the start of the 2014 school year I received a job supervising in school suspension at Lincoln Northeast High School. As the ISS supervisor I was responsible for handling the students who were taken out of class for behavioral issues, who needed just a place to work, or for students who were suspended and waiting for a parent to pick them up. I made sure they finished assigned work and at times had discussions with them about their behavior and what they could do better. After the 2014-2015 school year Northeast moved me to my current position of Academic Support Supervisor. My current responsibilities are to make sure students who are struggling get their work done and turned in and that they keep their grades up.

My hours would be 4:30-8:30 on Monday-Thursday and 10-whenever we get done on Saturdays. I have reliable transportation and I pride myself on quality work so any and all feedback you can give me is greatly appreciated. I have a 24 hour cancellation policy but I can always be flexible as I understand certain things can come up at the last minute. Hourly rate is also negotiable between 30-40 dollars an hour. You'll find that I am very easy to work with and am negotiable in just about every situation. I look forward to hearing from you and I hope I can help you achieve success in your studies!

I encourage students to first find the answers on their own. If the assignment is to read and then answer questions then the student must read first and actually read. I try to always promote critical thinking skills, and to help the student do the work on their own and not just give the answer.

I encourage students to learn the words on their own rather by sounding them out or through memorization. I never like to just give the answers.

My degree is in history and I've always loved learning about it. History fascinates me rather it be World or American history. As I've said I like to promote critical thinking and try to allow the students to come to their conclusions on their own with me being a guide and not just giving answers.

I coach football. I've been involved with it all my life. Next to teaching coaching football is a passion and something I aim to one day try and make a career out of.

If you're looking for a quality, reliable, and knowledgeable tutor I'm your guy. I pride myself with quality work, and high expectations. I promote critical thinking and encourage students to reach the answers and conclusions on their own with guidance from me. I would love to help you reach your academic goals. I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified 7-12 teacher with a certificate from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I have two years experience working with students of all levels as a substitute teacher as well as two additional years as a high school para at Lincoln Northeast. I am proficient in all subjects for elementary and have taught them as a substitute teacher on multiple occasions.

Football

I have been a football coach for 7 years. First, I was at Kearney Catholic Junior High where I coached 7-8 grade football as an offensive line coach. Next, I moved to Lincoln Southwest High School where I was a freshman offensive line coach for two years, and then into my current position at Lincoln Northeast High School as a Reserve (sophomore) offensive line coach.
