About Lori

Greetings!
After over twenty years in the classroom, I stepped out and started doing tutoring too. Even though classroom teaching is still something I love to do, I found that I truly enjoy the one-on-one interaction with students. And, with my teaching background it was easy to figure out what to focus on for the students.

The three keys to focus on are learning styles, time management and organization and practice - deliberate practice. Let me explain.
Learning styles are a basic concept of education as every person learns differently, called learning styles.
With this knowledge, I focus students on the best way they can learn. This may be done through trial and error but quite often the student already knows. Once you have this ability/skill - subjects will become easier.

Time Management and Organization, from the quote "those who fail to plan, plan to fail." This can include learning many different things from using a planners or a calendar, when and where to study, how to take test/exams, and working with your instructor(s). All this helps in being more successful in the classroom and grades.

Practice, deliberate practice or studying. Often, students spend hours studying only to get a low test scores. But if you find out how to practice in a deliberate style, you will have more time and have better grades. So often when we study ... it is wasted time.

In college I started out in nursing but needed something a little more technical so ended up getting a degree in Radiology Technology. So not only do I have a great background in health sciences, I needed to be strong in mathematics. I continue to hold a license in Radiology though I have not actually done this for several years. I went on to get a degree in Health Education and then a graduate degree in Educational Leadership. That is when I began to teach at a hospital and a community college. I was asked to tutor and found it was easy for me to help students in math. I have a few tutoring students in elementary school, but more in the junior high and high school, plus college level.
Actually working in hospitals and clinics and teaching - forced me to truly learn anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and pharmacology. And I can truly say I love it all! It is exciting.

So I can guarantee a quiet and comfortable place for us to meet, I use the public libraries in Lincoln. Most of them have study rooms that can be reserved. Though, some students prefer to meet at a coffee shop. I do want to meet at a public place.

I like to go over many items our very first meeting in the first thirty minutes we meet. From my philosophy to your goals, meeting times, but what is it you want. And if you want to have a session that first time - I'll be ready!

Let me know if you have any questions.
I look forward to hearing from you,

Want to get ahead in your classes? I can assist YOU!

I have 20+ years of experience but new knowledge of how to help students.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

I have 20+ years experience in classroom teaching and firsthand knowledge what study skills a student needs to succeed. Graduate school classes taught me how to assist the student in such areas as study techniques, keeping a calendar, taking tests, and working with their instructor. I have proven tutoring experience with students and these approaches work.
