My love for teaching started in high school when my history teachers made history fun and exciting. I understand how boring history in high school can be and I want to bring the same enjoyment for the subject as my high school teachers. In my senior year of high school, I was awarded with the "Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society award for Outstanding Proficiency in American History in high school". I graduated, in December, from Concordia University with my Bachelor's of Science degree in Secondary Education specializing in the Social Sciences and Geography. I have previously tutored in Seward, NE and the People's City Mission in Lincoln, NE.
My primary subjects are United States History and World History. Other subjects I am willing and able to tutor in are Government, Sociology, Religion, and Psychology. One of my goals as a teacher and a tutor is to make learning fun and enjoyable.
As a history expert, I hold myself to a high standard and always check my facts. I expect the same from any student I would be teaching and to never take claim of any information he or she might find. I encourage hard work and perseverance in anything being done. Above all else, I only ask that you have fun doing your work. History is fun when you look behind the names and dates and explore the stories of what people did.
My tutoring policy is not set in stone and I am very flexible. I am free to tutor at any location at around 20 miles and I currently have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If a scheduled tutoring time has to be canceled or missed for some reason I am open to rescheduling times.
I understand how difficult, or uninteresting, Social Studies can be in high school so I want to be able to help you focus on the important facts and make learning fun and enjoyable. I look forward to hearing from you helping you find success in your studies! My love for teaching started in high school when my history teachers made history fun and exciting. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As part of my requirements for earning my BS in Secondary Education, I had to take several religion classes that required me to heavily study the Bible in different ways. I researched and presented various subjects on the Bible including a 24 page exegetical research paper on a passage from the Pauline Epistles. I also have my Lutheran Teacher's Degree which qualifies me to teach in a Lutheran school.
I took Tae Kwon Do for several years in Lincoln, NE. I stopped learning Tae Kwon Do but I earned a Level Three Third Degree Black Belt. I participated in a tournament and earned a third place bronze metal in point sparring in 2005.
