Theater

I have taught theatre to students of all ages, from Kindergarten through adult. I have taught classes, directed productions, led seminars and workshops, and taught individuals. I also developed the theater department for a large local church in Omaha, NE, which involved such things as: overseeing several teams, leading workshops, and training and directing actors and leaders. Since that time, I have directed other productions as well, and have continued writing, speaking and acting.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

This is a favorite teaching area for me! I have taught high school, and college students; as well as professionals and actors. I cannot count the number of people I have seen who have "bloomed" before my eyes, as they overcame fears, strengthened techniques and gained confidence. I have worked with students and professionals, and always count it a joy to coach / teach in Public Speaking. One of my favorite opportunities involving coaching competitive Speech, Debate and Acting teams. Several of the students I coached went to the National level of competition, and all of my students did very well.

I begin with an assessment of reading comprehension, reading fluency, and vocabulary. Once a general reading level is determined, work is begun with a goal to raise all levels of reading. This may include some instruction in spelling, grammar, vocabulary, etc., but that is determined according to the needs of the individual.

Phonics-based spelling instruction. The student's spelling level is assessed and phonics instruction is given for the Spalding Method of reading, writing and spelling. The student begins at his or her current spelling level, and we work our way up to higher levels.
