About Shelbi

My name is Shelbi and I'm a senior Music Education major at the University of Nebraska at Kearney with voice as my primary instrument. I will graduate soon and I'm very excited to be a music teacher! I've spent many hours in the classrooms observing and helping teach. I teach voice lessons as well and absolutely love seeing my students grow and progress. I was a lead teacher at a swimming facility where I taught many students how to swim from six months to 70 years old.

I love getting to work with all kinds of students and seeing them grow. Tutoring is so fun because it is more personal and I get to help a student that may be struggling or may just want to get ahead. I love it when my old students come back to show me how far they've come. Knowing I had a part in their success means the world to me.

I have taken voice lessons myself for about 13 years and have been giving lessons for about 5 years. I will graduate very soon with a degree in music education from UNK. I have taken many different levels of piano, sight singing, ear training, music theory, analysis, conducting, and arranging classes there from wonderful professors. I have also sung in the top ensembles there for four years.

Education and Music are two of my greatest passions and I'm so excited to get to share it! Please feel free to contact me any time. I know music classes online seems a little strange, but it can be very fun and so rewarding for everyone. If you have any questions about me, lessons, or music don't hesitate to contact me!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Flute

I have played the flute for 13 years. I played in high school as well as in my collegiate band. I have taken classes on how to teach the flute and the pedagogy behind it.

General Music

I am currently a senior music education major specializing in the voice with a focus on elementary general music. I have spent many hours in the classrooms observing and teaching general music classes. I believe that general music classes are very important as they feed into our upper level music classes. These classes are the reason that students love music.

Music Theory

I am a senior music education student that has taken four years of extensive music theory and general music training classes.

Voice (Music)

I am a senior music education major specializing in voice and have taken voice lessons myself for 13 years. I study vocal pedagogy and how the voice works at all stages. I currently teach voice lessons out of my home while I finish up my degree.

Amazing Lesson

Shelbi B. made the lesson really fun. She was able to critique my embouchure and breathing. I am having problems with my confidence and she totally made me feel comfortable playing in front of her. She took the time to get to know me personally and my music background to best help me.
