Due to demands on the classroom teacher, little time is available for working individually with students who needed additional instruction in order to succeed. I know that every student can master grade level material with proper guidance and attention. My goal is to provide that assistance, to build student confidence, and to challenge students to reach higher levels of learning.
I am certified and available to teach all elementary subjects (K-6) and I specialize in English Language Learners (ELL) ages kindergarten through adult. In elementary subjects, I take a holistic approach and try to relate all material to what students are currently studying in their classroom in order to work on new skills while reinforcing other subjects. English Language Learners will be presented with lessons that are tailored to their needs, by addressing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
I am flexible regarding the meeting place. Students may come to my home, or, for a small charge above the designated hourly rate, I will travel to the student’s home. Please keep in mind that a quiet environment will be required. I am also willing to meet students at a central location in the community. I require an 8 hour cancellation notice, but I will work with students in scheduling make-up dates when cancellations are necessary.
I look forward to speaking with you to talk about ways to achieve academic success.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an artist and I have been taking art classes all my life. I am currently attending a weekly life drawing workshop at a local art center.
I have had my work displayed in several businesses, resulting in sales as well as in commissions. Lessons would include instruction in multiple media, to include pencil, charcoal, pastel, and ink. Lessons would also include the four basic methods of drawing: gesture, contour, construction, and modelling. Photos of my work are available upon request.
A graduate of the University of North Dakota, I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education as well as an ELL Certification from Concordia University in Nebraska. I have been substitute teaching in the Bellevue Public School system in Nebraska for for the last five years in all grades K through 6. I have logged about 200 hours volunteering in adult English Language classes at a Community College in Omaha, Nebraska.
I am an artist as well as a teacher,so good handwriting is important to me. I am familiar with the D'Nealian, Peterson, and Palmer styles of writing used in classrooms, and with several calligraphic styles of writing. Along with instruction on shaping letters, I also give instruction on the physical aspects of writing such as proper grip, pressure, and paper position.
I began painting at age 10 and have always taken opportunities to learn from classes as well as from other artists. I currently have paintings on display at local businesses. I work in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. Lessons would include instruction in composition and design, art terminology, technique, and color theory. Lessons may be tailored to student's particular needs. Photographs of my work are available upon request.
