About Tamara

I take pride in a job well done and helping others to do the same. Having completed my BA in Anthropology (with a minor in Criminal Justice) and graduating Magna Cum Laude, and completing my Masters in Anthropology specializing in Bioarchaeology, Human Osteology, and Forensic Anthropology, I am intimately familiar with the diversity of teaching and learning experiences. I have been both student and teacher and with that, I am able to bring perspective and understanding to the table.

Following my educational career, I went on to pursue my professional pursuits and became well skilled in database management, Excel, and preparing, editing, and proofreading long and short reports as well as other documents. For those looking for a proofreader, I am both experienced and proficient. Details and presentation are what can make the difference between a good paper and a great paper. Sentence construction, spelling, and grammar can sometimes mean the difference between success and failure. I also believe in the use of the Oxford Comma.

I make every effort to perform to the highest standards in all my work and am flexible with my time. I can work under tight deadlines though the more time I am provided, the better. Feedback is appreciated so I may continue to improve the service I provide.

I am here to help achieve realistic goals, assist students in succeeding, and polish, proof, and fine tune your writing projects. I look forward to hearing from you.

I completed a BA and an MA in anthropology. My studies were in the four fields with additional focus on forensic anthropology (and forensic sciences), bioarchaeology, and human osteology. As an undergraduate student I also completed courses in biology, geology, chemistry, and human anatomy as well as completing a minor in criminal justice studies.

If you are looking for a proofreader or help in writing, I am the one for which you are looking. I have completed a BA and an MA and through the numerous courses of study, I have had a great deal of writing experience and success. I graduated with a 3.7 GPA for my BA program and a 3.5 GPA in my MA program.

I went on in my professional career to write reports, site forms, spreadsheets, and other documents. I went on to become responsible for editing and proofreading documents for those companies.

Throughout my academic career I was active in campus/school organizations as well as advocacy groups. These extracurricular activities provided me the opportunity to garner a great deal of experience speaking to groups, both small and large. I have spoken to groups as small as a few people to as large as hundreds.

* I do tutor piano but only introductory level as I have developed carpal tunnel issues.

Help is always out there... I am here to help. Whether you are looking for a proofreader/editor, a formatter, help with writing, or tutoring in my subjects, I am here to help you succeed.

I look forward to being the tutor you need to succeed.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I have a BA and an MA in anthropology in the four field approach with a focus on forensic anthropology, physical anthropology, bioarchaeology, and human osteology. I graduated with a 3.7 and 3.5 respectively. In addition to being a student, I also taught 'Introduction to Physical Anthropology' for over three years.

Archaeology

I have a BA and an MA in anthropology in the four field approach with a focus on forensic anthropology, physical anthropology, bioarchaeology, and human osteology. I graduated with a 3.7 and 3.5 respectively. In addition to being a student, I also taught 'Introduction to Physical Anthropology' for over three years.

During my time as a student, I worked as a lab and field supervisor for our archaeology department and cultural resource management opportunities. Following graduation, I went to work with Cultural Resource Management firms conducting archaeological work in the field and lab.

Cooking

I worked for over two years in a Farmer's Market/Restaurant/Catering business (Guzzetti's Catering and Indian Food). I also still help to maintain their facebook page and offer tips on food combinations, health benefits, cooking techniques, and other kitchen and cooking related information. I possess a library that includes over 200 cooking texts as well as a minimum of four banker boxes of cooking magazines. I am capable of cooking without a recipe and can modify recipes with ease.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Excel since I was an Undergraduate in College (starting in 1994). I have used Excel in my coursework as well as in my professional career. I also use Excel as a means of tracking personal expenses and other tasking. I have used excel to both manage data and analyze data. I can use the base functions regarding formulas and can use sets of data in excel to generate graphics.

Microsoft Outlook

At least as early as 1999 I have maintained an outlook account for almost the entirety of time since then until January of 2015. An outlook account was mandatory at all of my places of employment (residence hall director, lab supervisor, my employment at Statistical Research, Inc. and Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc.). I am well versed in the use and intricacies of Outlook.

Microsoft PowerPoint

As both an undergraduate and graduate student I have used PowerPoint for presentations in my courses. As an instructor, I used Powerpoint for all of my presentations.

I have also presented papers to groups and at a conference. I have used Powerpoint for these efforts.

I used Powerpoint for marketing presentations within my professional career as well.

Microsoft Word

I have been using Microsoft Word since beginning my undergraduate college career in 1994. Since then I have used it for virtually all of my coursework and throughout my professional career to create a range of documents, posters, newsletters, marketing materials, birthday cards, and other documents. I also use Microsoft word in my non-professional life to create resumes, CVs, note documentation, and a host of other tasking/documents.

Piano

I began playing piano as a child, taking lessons throughout elementary school and high school. I was able to practice at home and at school and became quite proficient. My piano playing skills allowed me to compete and perform as well as occasionally accompany vocalists (while in high school performance choir). I also played piano as entertainment for a department banquet in 1995). I still play to this day.

Proofreading

In the last decade, I have worked in a professional environment that included both the creation and finishing of a range of internal and external documents, many of which were for publication. I was tasked with reviewing documents to ensure readability and proof spelling, grammar, and content. In addition to these professional experiences, as a graduate student, it was imperative to be skilled at proofreading documents/papers prior to submission as it was a significant factor in the coursework and grading.

I have also provided proofreading services to others. I have proofread a number of 'Victim Impact Statements' that were written by victims/families injured/killed by impaired drivers as well as other documents submitted to the court.

Public Speaking

While working through my academic pursuits, I was involved as a program director for the residence halls at UND. In this position I was responsible for working with a team of program advisors and speaking at residence hall events. I have spoken in front of groups as small as a few people to as large as a few hundred people.

I also taught in grad school as well as presenting posters and a paper at national conferences within my field (anthropology, forensics).

Reading

As a lover of books, I have always been a voracious reader, from early youth and into my adulthood. Books have served as both an educational tool as well as an escape. Throughout my academic career, I was devoted to reading all of the required texts (books, journals, etc) in order to do well. In my personal life, I collect unique, rare, and interesting books that span a range of topics, including but not limited to science, mystery, adventure, cooking, archaeology, forensics, and culture.

My experience with reading spans my entire life and has been ever-present in my personal pursuits, academics, and professional career.

Spelling

Early in my youth I competed and advanced to ND Regional Spelling Bee. In addition to an academic career that includes a BA and MA (3.7 GPA and 3.5 GPA),both of which required a great deal of writing, I went on to a professional career that included significant writing assignments including forms, reports, and marketing material.

In my personal life, I have written and edited impact statements for court, blog entries, and content marketing for social media postings (for advocacy organizations.

Throughout these experiences, I have also proofread and edited all of this material, thus leading me to a proficient skill level in spelling.
