University of Mary (English Education)
Hello! My name is Brandon, and I am interested in helping others with English course work, writing, reading, etc. I am currently working on BA in English Education through the University of Mary, hoping to teach high school English in the very near future. I have always enjoyed working with others on all things "English." I have had some mild tutoring experience before, but what I'm hoping I can bring to the table is a real zest for individualized learning. I am lacking in experience, and that is why I am here at WyzAnt. I want to have some excellent tutoring experiences here, helping prospective students like you in any way I can. I am open to various ways in which I can be of some help in the English and literary studies. In terms of teacher pedagogy, I am a big believer in student-directed learning and constructivism. I do not believe that students are blank slates; rather, every student comes in with his or her own valuable sum of knowledge. I think the best ways of teaching involve drawing out that prior understanding and utilizing it, rather than trying to suppress it.
I would love to be involved in helping you with English coursework, whether it is grammar, speech, reading, writing and formatting, or any other area of interest. I have a passion for English as a study. I love to write. Writing can be a fantastic way to communicate ideas and feelings to other people. I wrote for both the literary magazine and school newspaper of my high school, and in high school I was recognized both by NCTE for my achievements in my two journalism courses, two Advanced Placement English programs, participation in the school speech team, and writing contributions in other papers. I have a strong GPA and strong aptitude for English language usage. Please let me know if you think I can help in some way. I'm still in college, so I know I'm lacking in the formal experience department-- but that's what I'm looking for right now, some great experiences that can help me move forward. I would love to work with you to get that quality experience I need, and in the process, I hope I can help you reach your learning goals as well. I am very flexible with hours and pay, given my current level of inexperience. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
