Meredith College (Mathematic education)
University of Pheonix (Graduate Coursework)
Hello! My name is Heather. I have been a native of North Carolina my entire life. I have mainly lived in the Zebulon area. I have gone to school in North Carolina for all grades as well as my college education. I have also taught high school mathematics (all grades and almost all courses) in North Carolina for eight years. Since NC has switched over to common core state standards, my teaching experience is in align with almost all other states as well! Only a few states have not adopted the common core standards for Mathematics. I have left teaching for a little while to be home with my little girl who is two. I have to say, I do miss math.
While teaching, I was Mathematics Department Chair for our high school for over four years. I was department chair up until I took leave. I graduated from Meredith College with 9-12 mathematics education licensure as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics (more mathematics course work needed vs regular licensure program). I did both because I really do love mathematics and find it very easy to understand and therefore very easy to explain! While at Meredith, I was an Honors student and was required to have a certain number of volunteer tutoring hours each semester in my major of mathematics. Since I was required to tutor starting my freshman year in college, I have over ten years experience tutoring different levels of mathematics, all the way from elementary to graduate level. I have tutored a few graduate students and I have also completed some graduate level work, but have not completed a graduate program. Also, tutoring is where I gained a love of explaining why math is beautiful and how it works by always following the same set of rules. You just have to learn those rules and understand why they are true in order to be successful in math!!
Please let me know if you would like to schedule tutoring or if you have any more questions! If you schedule tutoring and need to cancel, please do so with 24 hours notice so that I may substitute if needed that day! Thanks for looking! I look forward to hearing from you. Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
