My name is Hannah G. I am currently teaching ESL at Westover Christian Academy, Danville, VA. I have more than 10 years of experience teaching students from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I am highly qualified to teach according to the "No Child Left Behind" policy. I have a Professional California Teaching Credential since 2006. I also have a professional teaching credential from ACSI. My Bachelor of Arts is in Elementary Education, and my Master of Arts is in Mathematics Education.
I absolutely love to teach elementary students all subjects, however, my most favorite subjects are language arts and mathematics. Phonics, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and reading fluency are my expertise. Students learn to enjoy math under my instruction because I make it easy and fun.
My most rewarding experience is seeing a child grow academically strong, developing a love for learning after my instruction, and feeling confident in himself/herself. I am very patient with children; they can relate to me easily. Parents find that I am very easy going and super friendly.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been an educator since 1999, teaching students in grade 1 (Guilford County Schools, Greensboro, NC), grade 2 and 4 (Mountain View School District, El Monte, CA), grade 5 (Forsyth Academy, Winston Salem, NC), and ESL to Middle School and High School Students (Westover Christian Academy, Danville, VA). I have a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from La Sierra University, Riverside, CA. I have a Master of Arts in Education and a Professional California Teaching Credential through California State University, Los Angeles. I am very knowledgeable in all subject matters. Working with struggling students is my strength. My goal is always to give students the confidence they need by helping them reach mastery in a given skill set.
For students in Kindergarten to 3nd grade, I utilize skills and strategies from the Wilson’s Fundations program to equip students to build strong phonemic awareness, phonics/word study, high frequency word study, reading fluency, vocabulary, comprehension strategies, and spelling.
I use Project GLAD, research-based strategies, that promote English language acquisition, academic achievement, and cross-cultural skills.
The CELL and Ex-cel programs focus on using balanced reading and writing to promote literacy in children from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I teach students to “picture walk” and use KWL’s strategy to activate prior knowledge, have a vocabulary discussion, decode words, and make predictions prior to reading a story.
