About Christi

Professionally I teach children from the WSFCS district how to become better readers. My students have deficits in all areas of reading from phonics to comprehension and anything in between. Additionally, I have taught English to non English speaking adults and currently teach it to children from K-4. I have 5 years classroom experience and the responsibility of helping my child with special needs learn to become a solid reader.

I provide one-on-one tutoring and after assessing the areas of deficit, implement proven methods of improving reading skills. If your child is testing behind grade level or you want them to be on level come the Fall, meeting your child twice weekly for 30 minute sessions is most effective. Your child's reading ability affects how well they can succeed in all other subjects and so I teach how to remove those reading barriers. My goal with any child is to pass on a life long love for reading and I believe I can do that for your child too.

I make reading fun by playing a lot of games with children to teach the lessons they need most.

I am very resourceful and require my kids to take a 'hands on' approach to learning. We are not just trying to work our way through a challenging passage, rather I give tools on how to approach what's before them.

Using rhymes and phonics and combining writing with speaking, I am able to create strategies for young spellers.

I have had more fun, more rewarding days, more daily celebrated victories working with my little friends. I have seen results and confidence soar! I would love to be there for your child too.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I am a Reading Interventionist for WSFCS district and I daily serve the reading needs of 25 students of whom most came to me with phonics as their main area of deficit. I prefer to use Pinnell & Fountas lessons. In addition to my classroom time, I receive ongoing weekly training from education professionals as well as peer training.
