Hi, I'm Erica! I'm a writing coach, music instructor, and academic consultant. Are you interested in learning how to play a new instrument or take your musical skills to the next level? Are you struggling to craft a compelling personal statement for your college or medical school application? Do you need help with a difficult music theory concept? If so, I'm here to help!

I have over ten years of experience working with students of all ages and levels of advancement in the following subjects: English language and literature, music performance (piano and cello), music theory, music history, and other arts and humanities subjects. I studied English and Music at an elite liberal arts university and graduated with honors in both subjects.

I work with students in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college, as well as adult and non-traditional students. In 2015, I received a Fulbright fellowship to teach middle and high school English in the Czech Republic. While in the Czech Republic, I also tutored students one-on-one in English grammar and conversation skills. My teaching style is encouraging and student-centered.

As a professional writing coach, I specialize in helping students with personal statements and admissions essays for college, graduate school, medical school, and competitive international awards. I will support you through every step of the writing process, from brainstorming and formulating ideas to submitting a polished product that makes you proud! Students I have worked with have been accepted to top-tier programs, including Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Washington University School of Medicine, and Wake Forest University School of Medicine. I am also available for editing/feedback on term papers, theses, conference presentations, scholarly articles, and more.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you'd like to schedule a lesson! I look forward to helping you achieve your goals.

You are a delight to learn from. Thank you for having me as your student. The lesson was very fun and enjoyable to me. I particularly enjoy your input to revise the notes/chords in Bohemian Rhapsody to make it sound authentic. Happy Happy birthday to you!! See you next Tuesday.

AMCAS writing, Mentorship, and Writing Organizational skills

Erica has been in the process of helping review personal statements and the work and activities section of my application to medical school over the past few months! I was told about erica from a friend, who expressed erica's passion for writing, working hard to improve the writing and kind nature. It was all true. From the start, she made sure she had a strong idea of the type of essays I was interested in writing and made me feel so comfortable during each session. Her positive personality has made the process very fun too! The process of writing essays for medical school is no easy fleet, but erica has managed to make it so smooth for me and I am so grateful for her past experience working with so many other students in my boat. She has worked hard to help me organize my train of ideas and has coached me on how to write in a way that retains my personality while sounding professional (something that can take a non-writer a few years of experience). She has even purchased countless books about medical school writing to enhance her knowledge set on the most powerful types of essays. To me, that undoubtedly showed me her commitment to her students and I know my writing would not have progressed in the way it has without erica's support and helpful ideas. I would not have written as strong of an essay without ericas positive energy and essay writing guidance/life gudiance during a stressful time. I can't recommend Erica enough to other students in this process! She truly is the best at what she does!

Knowledge, Patient, Fun, Total Rock Star

I'm an adult student of Erica's who decided to revisit my piano teachings from childhood :) Erica has made it so much fun for me!! She's SUPER knowledgeable and explains things in ways that really help me to understand technique and the nuances of music in general. She's supportive and patient!! Being a student herself in the past, she understands the ups and downs students face - particularly getting super nervous to play a piece you have down pat when nobody is listening, but then fumble when the "teacher" is listening :) I could go on and on about her, she's a ROCK STAR and a complete GEM!!

super knowledgeable patient teacher

My daughter and I just started piano with Erica. She established great rapport with us, and immediately honed in on how we could make the biggest improvements right away. We’re excited to continue with her!

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Erica really has a lot of patience teaching my son. He sometimes plays while she is trying to teach and she waits for him to finish and gets him back on track. My son really enjoys the lessons and he is starting to get really good!

She helped me a lot!

Erica F. taught me how to understand Reading Comprehension, summarize ideas, and writing ideas. She also she was patient with me and she let me ask many questions that I didn't understand what she was trying to teach me on Zoom. She showed how to write a summary in a simple Reading Comprehension. Then I have an idea how to understand reading. Before I was with the tutor with Erica F., I struggle a lot in Reading Comprehension and writing and I feel frustrated about it. But then slowly Erica F. and I read the story from Reading Comprehension and I improved it. I never have a great tutor that helped me impatiently than other previous tutors before. I recommend you try Erica F! From her student, Leonard Pieper

Making theory enjoyable

I’ve enjoyed working with Erica on music theory, which I’ve struggled with in the past. Erica has found a way to present the material in a fun way and adds teaching tools that have helped me understand the material better. I’ve enjoyed working with Erica and she seems to really enjoy her work.
