About Logan

Hi guys!

I recently graduated with honors from Virginia Tech with a degree in engineering. My major was Engineering Science and Mechanics which is a very small and unique program within the College of Engineering. The curriculum most closely resembles that of Mechanical Engineering, but with the addition of extensive theoretical and derivation-based work. These studies have left me with a very strong foundation and understanding of underlying mechanical and physical principles, as well their application to many systems.

I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Wake Forest through the VT-WFU School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences. I study injury and impact biomechanics using computer modeling and simulation.

I genuinely love learning and love the subjects I currently study and studied throughout my undergraduate career. I also enjoy teaching and helping others work through the process of understanding and mastering concepts. It is incredibly rewarding to see and be able to help with that development.

I consistently scored at the top of my class in all in-major courses. I received A's in all math/engineering courses I took (except for Fluid Mechanics... in which I scored a B). These include: many calculus classes, physics, operational methods, computational methods, instrumentation, multiple dynamics courses, statics, mechanics of deformable bodies, thermodynamics, mechanics of composites, vibrations, hemodynamics, injury biomechanics, finite element analysis, applied fluids.

I tutored all through my undergraduate career. I held private lessons with engineering students in the years behind me and I also work for Student Athlete Academic Support Services at VT tutoring athletes who were in math or engineering courses. I also volunteered at the YMCA tutoring elementary school-age children during the summer.

I hope to meet and work with some of you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored elementary school students for the YMCA for two years. I am a graduate student at Wake Forest, so I am familiar with all of the subject material that will be covered. Since I have tutoring experience with students in elementary school, I am also familiar with the pace of elementary education and the general expectations of kids that age. When I tutor elementary-age kids, I place an emphasis on organization and neat work and developing a problem solving strategy.

Study Skills

I am currently a graduate student and have taken many difficult classes throughout high school, college and graduate school that have helped me develop effective study skills. I have been a successful student in a variety of classes (math, science, social science) and believe that my approach to studying and test preparation is a vital part to my success. I also have an extensive amount of tutoring experience, so I am confident that I can help other students and help them perfect study skills that work for them.

Inexcusable Behavior

Logan cancelled on my college-age son several times, sometimes with notice and sometimes without. She was late on other occasions and had a different excuse for each event. The night before his calculus final exam, Logan stood him up, leaving him waiting for her in the library for one hour before she answered one of his texts, stating that she had car trouble. Logan never showed up, and would not
