About Lexie

I have a B.A. in Criminal Justice with a double minor in psychology and sociology from UNC Wilmington. Having graduated magna cum laude and at the top of my major class I know that hard work, studying and dedication can pay off.

I have been a tutor and homeschool instructor for 8 years and I have a passion for helping students achieve their academic goals. My specialties are in SAT math prep, and all math subjects up to Algebra 2; English including research papers, proofreading and formatting; US history and Civics and Economics; and all elementary subjects. I have homeschooled from 6th to 10th grade as well and I'm happy to help with curriculum creation, teaching a subject you're unfamiliar with or simply tutoring across the board.

I am available weekdays after 5:30 and weekends vary. If you'd like to discuss other arrangements I can always try to rearrange the calendar. I look forward to meeting you and developing a plan that works best with your student's learning style.

I have always had a passion for math! Over the years of helping those who don't love math I have developed many tricks and tips to make it easier to grasp various concepts.

Proofreading is something I have many years of experience in from my own papers to peer editing to assisting my students and grading work.

I have homeschooled or assisted homeschoolers for 3 years, I'm well versed in creating lesson plans and carrying out short, effective lessons with follow up work to show student progress.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Criminal Justice

I have a bachelors' degree in criminal justice. I graduated top of my class for this topic and I am well versed in many aspects of our justice system. I have taken courses on everything from the criminal courts, criminal law, juvenile justice and even the impact that civil law has on the criminal justice system.

I have homeschooled 2 students from 6th grade through 10th grade and I have assisted with the homeschooling of elementary students in specific subjects over the past 4 years. I specialized in creating lesson plans in core subjects and oversaw their learning in non-core subjects including creating projects to exhibit what they had learned. I am confident in grading and testing and ensuring that their transcripts are properly formatted and maintained as well.

Sociology was my minor in college. I am well versed in the basics all the way through the subject specific application of sociological theories and practice. I have knowledge ranging from environmental sociology, family sociology, the sociology of birth and death and the real time application of sociology in relation to criminology and the justice system.

Study Skills

Having both gone through school and tutored many different students I have developed an array of different study skills to help with various subjects and learning styles. From how to create effective flash cards to word and rhyme tricks to trigger a fact, I have many methods to share with my students. What works for some may not work for others that is why I think having a vast pool of skills would be useful to those I work with.
