Hello! I am currently a student at UNCW studying social work. I grew up in a small town where reading levels were very important. In elementary school, I read so often that my reading levels became two grades above the grade I was in. I am very passionate about helping others read and to hopefully be able to enjoy reading. When I'm reading with elementary students, I take the time to make sure that they understand what they are reading and the meaning behind it.
I spent the spring of 2016 working with elementary students who had been held back a grade because of their learning levels. I helped them with their reading worksheets and comprehension. This was a classroom of 2nd graders who, by the end of the semester, had learned to love reading and would run to me and ask me to read with them. It is such a great feeling to see someone so happy to read!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
