Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am a fully certified Exceptional Children's (Special Education) Teacher in the state of North Carolina. My licensure area covers K-12 General Curriculum needs as well as Severe/Profound (Adapted Curriculum needs). My education in the subject is at the Master's level, having earned a Master of Science in Education, Special Education from Saint Joseph's University in May 2016.

My area of specialty is working with students to modify negative behaviors that impede learning as a result of ADD/ADHD through the use of behavior intervention methods, plans and programs, scheduling routine mentoring sessions to implement appropriate feedback, and implementation of student-individualized study strategies which may include, but are not limited to: structured study plans to include frequent breaks for students challenged with attention deficits, adapting lesson plans to focus on student mastery of key concepts and use of verbal, breaking down of larger concepts into smaller more manageable tasks, use of preferred learning inventories/methods and student driven cues to eliminate distractions/negative student behaviors that correlate with related attention deficit disorders.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am a fully certified Master's level Special Education Teacher within the field of Special Education. My professional experience with ASD spans widely in working within traditional public classroom settings, to working privately with students in the home using ABA methods and extinction and also within a private/clinical setting. My experience has left me well versed to address needs of students with a wide-range of spectrum-based disorders to improve functionality and decrease problematic behaviors.

Praxis

I am a professional educator (licensed). I have successfully completed and passed a number of these exams, after taking the time to understand the layout and questions for the individual exams using information provided directly from the Praxis Website. Study Materials used for study sessions are Praxis approved materials.

Public Speaking

As an undergraduate I spent two years (earning an associates level) in communication. The extent of my studies formally trained me for public speaking. In addition to my formal training, I have extensive experience with public speaking working freelance as a motivational speaker on a wide range of topics. Lessons are tailored uniquely to the needs of students/clients served and address specific techniques used in order to finely tune the skill of speaking in public.

Social Studies

I have an undergraduate degree in American Studies. As a Special Education Teacher, I routinely access a wide-array of content areas including within the discipline of Social Studies. I've worked with middle and high school grade students for the last 7 years and have an extensive working and practical knowledge of Social Studies curriculum.
