University of North Carolina, Wilmington (Marine Biology)
I'm a recent college graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology. I've worked with kids for several years as a summer camp counselor. I created lesson plans and activities for kids aged 5-17 in a summer program called MarineQuest. I'm very intellectual, patient and willing to take my time to help students master the subject given to them.
What I love most about tutoring is seeing a students face light up when they've conquered a specific learning challenge. I think it's important for students to actually understand the material, and not just memorize for a good grade. I also empathize with students who may feel a bit lost or behind in classes and I want to help fix that problem and help a student reach their full potential.
My mother is a teacher and always worked with me to be able to read at a high and proficient level. I do enjoy reading in my spare time. I've read a variety of books such as the Illiad, The Divine Comedy, and even some trivial books such as Twilight. I believe that reading is an important foundation for students as they get older. It's never too early to start getting a student interested in reading.
I have experience working with students ages 5-17 as a summer camp counselor. I taught my students all of the aspects of science and conservation. I understand that students need creative ways to actually learn the material, not just memorize for tests. I feel as though the school systems are more concerned with just moving everyone along instead of actually helping the students learn and immerse themselves in a subject. I work to help students become immersed.
I have been drawing since I was a child. I've participated in many art shows and projects and have mastered the skill of shading, sketching, and painting. I' m a highly skilled artist and love to teach students how to use the creative side of their minds.
I promise that if you contact me, I will gladly help you succeed in whatever course you're having trouble in. I believe that everyone can reach their full potential but sometimes they need a little push or support from an outside party. I'm willing to help students through any issue that's thrown their way. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
