I have acquired my BA degree in English from UNCW. My highlights are being schooled in linguistics with additional studies of teaching English as a secondary language; in fact, I am currently trying to pursue my Master's of Arts in Teaching in the field of ESL. I am fluent in Spanish and many dialects of Chinese, as I have taken all college courses provided in the field of these secondary languages, plus 15 years of private studies and being a tutored student myself. I have equal experience in being a tutor for 16 years, plus being a public school teacher (as of late, an EC teacher at Laney High for an extended program in helping my students with the EOG). I have experience as being a substitute teacher for grades K-12 in the New Hanover County School system. Scholastically, I can help with SAT preparation in the areas of grammar, reading, and writing. Or for practical purposes, I can help non-English speakers speak with ease, consolidating tones and idioms down to a single phoneme or phrase to sound indigenous with the English language. I also thrive on teaching exceptional children, with experience in working with cognitive disorders that range from ADD/ADHD to Autism.
In short, I most especially want to stress that my students will be competent in the field they lack by the end of the tutoring trial. I help my students gain the aptitude for writing essays professionally for scholastic or vocational status, or even simply speaking the language for practical purposes (such as ordering Chinese food in the language of the owners' tongue, or vice-versa, such as someone who lacks proficiencies in English to order some fast food). I also want to stress that I can teach with a style that helps you learn English with a hands-on grasp, as a native speaker would learn, something that cannot be obtained from a text book. And as for technical, more intricate grammatical issues, I can teach with a friendly, comfortable and graspable ease that some teachers in the classroom may lack.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied and started playing chess at age 8 while attending the YMCA. While acquiring my associate and bachelor's degrees, I was an active member of the chess teams, one at CFCC and one at UNCW. I have tutored many students in this field, ranging from ages 7-24, and continue to do so as my passion for this ultimate game of logic continues to grow.
With my father having a master's degree in music, it goes to show that my genetic predisposition for the love of music is genuine. And although I have not acquired the same degree as he, I have met the prerequisites of music appreciation courses in college; furthermore, I have felt a vicarious passion for filling his shoes (so-to-speak) by wheeling a conductor's baton in front of many band/chorus classes while substituting for middle and high schools. I still maintain everyday performances/practices, using the many instruments from around the world that are in my collection. Plus, my students always have a blast playing with my instruments simply as a positive reinforcement. The legacy of "the coolest/best teacher ever" is surely implemented through the course of having fun in these types of classroom environments. As far as skill goes, I have heard that I am "the best guitar player...ever heard" from many friends, colleagues, and students. I still actively partake in guitar lessons.
