Miami University (Secondary Education Social Studies)
Hello! My name is Tara, and I am very excited to be your tutor! Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I graduated cum laude from Miami University with a secondary education degree in social studies, and a minor in history. For two years, I taught 10th and 11th grade American history at Milford High School in Cincinnati, before moving to North Carolina to work for a student outreach non-profit organization called young life, where I taught high school students leadership principles through large group presentations and individual and small group mentoring. In the past year, I have gotten back into the field of formal education, working both for the Harvard Graduate School of Education presenting a student summer reading program at local schools in Wilmington, as well as writing English curriculum for a Japanese tutoring company called Nagase Brothers, Inc.
I am very patient and a great communicator, and I especially excel at explaining history in a conceptual, exciting way to make it come alive for students. I am passionate about helping students achieve their goals and succeed in class, as well as on standardized and AP tests. Because I have experience teaching in a traditional classroom, as well as working with students one-on-one, I bring a unique, real-world attribute to tutoring. Additionally, I genuinely care about high school students, and am willing to go the extra mile to provide a positive educational experience for every teenager. Thank you in advance for giving me the opportunity to work with you! Hello! My name is Tara, and I am very excited to be your tutor! Let me tell you a little bit about myself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played on a select travel soccer team for eleven years growing up, and coached high school girls JV soccer for four years both in Ohio and in North Carolina. I have also led individual training sessions for girls working to improve their skills, as well as coached at training camps. I am available to work as an individual, small group, or team coach.
