I have taught secondary (HS) mathematics for 24 years in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. For several years I have tutored calculus, statistics and precalculus students who attend UNC-Wilmington,Cape Fear Community College and local high schools. I also worked as a lead tutor in the Learning Lab of Cape Fear Community College from 2000 - 2011.
Currently, I am teaching full time and completing a master's degree in Instructional Design at UNCW. My experiences working in public school and with adult learners has helped me understand the various ways students learn, whether you are a visual learner like me or an oratory learner like my children. I am patient and thorough when assisting students in completing assignments and mastering concepts. I have taught secondary (HS) mathematics for 24 years in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. Anita really helped me this past Sunday on relearning all of my statistics skills. She also showed me a couple of tricks on how to use the graphing calculator effectively and efficiently!
Anita has an abundance of experience and knowledge in many mathematics subjects. In our statistics tutoring sessions, she was familiar with every question, explained each one in detail, and showed me how to do them in the easiest, most pain-free ways possible. She's personable and friendly, and I'd highly recommend her to anyone seeking help in their math class.
Anita is friendly and flexible. She makes it very easy to acquire the math skills needed to succeed in Pre-calculus. She is very knowledgeable and is able to present the subject matter in a way that is easy to understand. She is very patient and clearly enjoys helping others learn.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a deep understanding of the Common Core standards students must master to be successful in Math III and other required high school math courses.
I have taught discrete mathematics for several years in New Hanover County Schools. I have extensive knowledge of problems and processes related to fair division, Euler and Hamiltonian graphing theories, probability, matrices and statistics.
I taught AP Statistics for several years at the high school level. I've also tutored college students in statistics. I have extensive experience in teaching the many concepts of statistics including the difference between descriptive and inferential statistics, experimental design, analyzing data, the normal distribution, sampling distributions, hypothesis testing and many more concepts.
