My name is Marie-Claire. I have sixteen years experience as a French teacher in New Zealand. I was raised and educated in France and left in my twenties for New Zealand where I became a certified teacher. I recently moved to the States and married a lovely American. I am ready to work! - now that I am the proud owner of a Green Card, Social Security number and work permit.
I taught French and English in New Zealand high schools as well as tutored many students of all ages after school. I enjoy the one-to-one approach because it allows me to get to know the students and tailor my lessons to their needs and preferences. I like to use a textbook but also teach from various sources - Internet, magazines, newsclips, games. I can make each lesson as formal or informal as necessary, although I prefer a less formal approach.
Tutoring is also a way for me to share my culture and love of languages. I miss speaking French here in America, and I enjoy the opportunity to keep in touch with my roots.
After so many years in English speaking countries, I consider myself bilingual. I actuallt taught English for a while and am currently working as a translator.
Looking forward to working with you,

Marie-Claire makes learning fun and easy. She has a great sense of humor and puts you at ease. This is important as speaking another language can be intimidating. We were having so much fun at the end of the hour we decided to work another 30 minutes. Looking forward to Thursday's lesson.
I have been working with Marie-Claire for almost a month and I am really enjoying our lessons. She has given me so many shortcuts and useful expressions to help me during my two month stay in France. I really like the way she recaps our lessons and then emails them to me.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
