“Math is a gift I was given. I am passionate about helping people understand it”.
I have been a professional math, chemistry, and test prep tutor for the past 4 years. This is my FULL TIME JOB and I have over 5,000 of hours experience, although I am new to Wyzant. I was educated in the UK (Boarding school and University) and received my MBA from Columbia Business School in NYC (Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society). I am a retired NYC hedge-fund manager and former strategy consultant that changed careers to become a full-time tutor. I have documented success of improving grades and test scores - references and testimonials available.
I understand that picking a math tutor is a difficult and daunting task. As a parent you want a tutor to be smart and experienced so your student trusts them and has confidence in them. You also want a tutor to be patient and adaptable in explaining material in order to capitalize on your student’s own way of learning so they feel engaged and encouraged to learn.
SMART & EXPERIENCED
I was educated in the UK and have an MBA from Columbia Business School graduating as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society. I have A+ grades in college level Algebra, Linear Algebra, Geometry, Statistics. I am a retired hedge fund manager and former management consultant which has given me a lot of experience applying math to real world situations. I have been tutoring full-time for many years with more than 5,000 of hours of tutoring experience but am relatively new to Wyzant.
I have tutored hundreds of students of all ability levels in math (subject, PSAT, SAT, ACT) from 5th-12th grade and into college. I have experience with 1-on-1, small groups and large classes. My students have seen significant improvements in their math grades and in their standardized test scores – references available.
PATIENT & ADAPTABLE
I love kids - I have four of my own ranging 3 to 19 years old. One of them has a learning disability and I have learned to be very patient, creative and adaptable in explaining mathematical concepts. Being able to explain mathematical concepts from several angles is extremely important as we are all different and all learn in our own way. I use a guided discovery approach where the student has to do the work – after all, I already know how to do it – and this helps significantly in the understanding of and retention of new concepts.
Current Areas of Math Focus
5th – 8th Grade, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, PreCalc, Statistics, PSAT, SAT, SAT Math subject tests I & II, ACT.
“Students tend to feed off my energy and my British sense of humor. It is rare that I don’t connect with a student and provide an engaging, supportive, and effective learning environment for them.”
