My name is Regina D. and I love school! I have been in school since I was 5 and except for a short time in the military and as a stay at home mom, I have stayed in school! I began teaching private flute lessons after I became a mother and left a position as a musician in the United States Air Force. I liked working with my private students so much, that I decided to go back to school to become certified as a middle school math teacher. I have been teaching math and music in different combinations since 2001.
I have taught every grade in middle school and I have taught every ability level - from struggling students with math phobia to gifted students. I have continued to work one-on-one with flute students over the years while being a classroom teacher for math, but I am ready now to help kids who struggle with math in, let's face it, a really effective one-to-one model!
If I was going to brag about myself mathematically and educationally, I would say that I 'Exceeded Expected Growth' with my students at Monroe Middle School, in Monroe, NC.
I like students to own their knowledge and that usually happens when they have the time to discover concepts rather than just have them told to them. As a classroom teacher, I know how difficult it is to find the time to allow discovery, so I am excited to provide this time through the tutoring process. I am fully trained in the Connected Mathematics Project Curriculum, and although I cannot use it in my classroom environment, I think it would be a valuable tutoring tool! Please feel free to investigate it!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
