About Melissa

Bio

I have 15 years of teaching experience. I have spent 13 years teaching 3rd grade - 5th grade in the classroom. For 2 years, I taught 4th grade - 10th grade online.

I love it when I am working with someone and all of the questions they have about a subject disappear. You can almost feel it when it "clicks" for someone and the person who was just struggling can now demonstrate mastery of a skill.

As a writer myself, I love to help others develop a love of reading.

I have taught 4th & 5th grade curriculum based on the common core.

Since most of my experience is helping students in elementary education, I have lots of strategies that can help a struggling learner.

Please contact me if you'd like to talk about how I can best help you learn.

Elementary Math

I use a variety of strategies to help struggling learners, especially in math. It just lends itself to learning through fun games and activities. I get to know my students' learning styles and incorporate those strategies into what we do.
Reading,

Reading

I think one of the great things about teaching a child to read is that the options are endless. We read all of the time, and don't even think of it as reading! It may be a menu or a recipe or a grocery list. I believe the best way to learn something is to start with what you know and build on from there. That instills confidence and gives a learner a safe place from which to explore.
