Hello! Hola! Grüezi! My name is Whitney and I'm an energized, travel-obsessed science and ESL tutor. I've had the opportunity to live in several states plus two countries outside of the US: Switzerland and Spain. Ultimately, I want my students to love learning as much as I do. With this attitude, I hope to enrich their lives and ignite a stronger confidence in themselves and their learning capacity.
I recently concluded my first academic teaching year in Madrid, Spain. I planned lessons, supervised, and managed approximately 140 energetic children, ranging from 4 years to 12 years, each day. I have also tutored ESL kindergarten students after school in the US. What I truly enjoy about tutoring is the one-to-one time you spend with a student. It makes the time personal and special to the learner and tutor. I hope to make our sessions as fun and student-geared as possible. Without further ado, let's get our heads out of the textbook and explore our natural environment to learn scientific concepts and let us use music, videos, and games to learn English!
I attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington for undergraduate and graduate school obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences and a Master of Arts in Environmental Management. I have worked on numerous research projects with The University of North Carolina Wilmington, The Nature Conservancy, and Texas A&M University focusing on conservation and ecology.
I acquired a TEFL/TESOL Teaching Certificate in 2014 and taught English in a bilingual elementary school in Madrid, Spain for the 2014-2015 academic school year.
I have studied Spanish for many years and recently lived in Madrid, Spain for one year. I also have a minor degree in Spanish from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

She did an excellent job assessing the needs of my student. They had a great first session starting on what he is currently covering and will do more next session. Really pleased!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Minored in Spanish at UNC Wilmington and, also, lived in Spain for a year.
