I am a certified educator who worked at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and I believe that all students can learn, given the opportunity to experience a blend of learning approaches and teaching strategies. When students struggle to grasp various key concepts and ideas, I believe in providing multiple ways of delivery in learning activities to include face-to-face traditional instruction/tutoring, frequent monitoring and supervision of progress, self-paced study and e-learning, hands-on activities, project based learning, frequent assessment for learning, and reteaching and daily checking for understanding. It is very important that the application of higher order thinking skills, critical thinking skills, organizational skills, and study skills be applied in the tutoring process. Students soon begin to gain greater confidence in themselves as learners once they know how to think creatively, organize, and build study skills.
I have tutored a number of students over the past 15 years at the elementary and middle school levels. For three years, I served as a project manager for a grant program partnered with a university. I coordinated student tutors from the university who tutored middle school students after school in reading and math. Providing the resources to target the learning gaps of those students who needed to succeed academically on their year-end test was one of my major goals along with coordinating middle school teachers to work with the university tutors to design individual learning plans and strategies on areas of focus. I best serve students who need assistance in reading, English, writing skills, and social studies. I enjoy working with students with various achievement levels. The first step is to determine how the student best learns and the individual learning style of the student. Next, looking at the most recent assessments of students or providing a pre-assessment to the students to determine exactly how the students is currently performing is key. Greetings:

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
