I team-taught in the general education setting with English and Algebra I teachers at the high school level. I have a Master of Education in Special Education and am certified in EC English, Special Education, and School Media.
I became interested in the teaching profession after a summer in college spent teaching reading and drama at a Boys and Girls Club. I started my career as a substitute teacher in the English classroom. When I went back to college, I became an EC assistant at an elementary school before becoming a high school EC teacher in 2002. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
