I have had experience working with student from ages pre-k all the way through college level. I have extensive background working with students who have ADHD/Aspergers and other special needs to help with social, organizational, and academic needs. In addition I have worked with many parents to advocate for students in IEP/504 meetings to be sure the school is providing appropriate accommodations. I also have a passion for working with students whom other teacher's have "given up" on. I have helped several of my students through the college application/standardized testing process. Most recently, I have spent time in the preschool age group working on classroom behavior modifications.
Personally, I have 3 children of my own 7, 5, and 2 - one of which has a sensory processing disorder in addition to ADHD. I have been teaching/tutoring for 10+ years and have seen great results with the students I have worked with. Many students seem to "fall threw the cracks" or skate by unnoticed until it is too late and they have given up due to school frustrations. I absolutely love the opportunity to work with students in every capacity and feel that teaching and patience are my gifts to assist others in reaching their goals however small or large they may be!
I would love the opportunity to work with you, and/or your student to help their reach their goals, whether it be short term or long term. I am willing to travel in the Triangle and Crystal Coast areas, but am also more readily available for online sessions! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a 3 sport athlete throughout high school and went on to play Div III college basketball for Utica College. My basketball career continued when I coached JV basketball for Batavia HS in NY. I have coached and worked with students in many capacities throughout my lifetime.
I am trained in and used the hand-writing without tears curriculum with k - 5th graders in a one on one setting. I taught pre-school and letter formation ages 3-5.
I worked as an executive skills coach for students w/ ADHD through Success4School. I worked one on one with students to help them overcome their executive funtion deficits with organization, study skills, communication, self-monitoring, and goal setting among others. I used LASSI modules and personally created lessons with each student. Over the past 7 years I have successfully worked with over 1000 students.
