I've been a tutor now for four years and I love my job! I specialize in Calculus 1/2/3, Differential Equations, Physics, and Electric Circuit Analysis but also teach algebra, SAT/ACT prep, and precalculus. I really look forward to the "AHA!" moment when a student finally understands the concepts that I'm trying to communicate. I understand that math and science can be very frustrating to some students. I can definitely help you!
I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island where I was a member of Tau Beta Pi (RI Beta) and Eta Kappa Nu national honor societies. I'm working towards my Master's in Electrical Engineering at NC State and work full-time in the field of electrical engineering. Math and science have always been my first love. I also have separate research interests in atmoshpheric dynamics/physics and Hamiltonian chaos. I found out that I had a natural ability to teach when I started helping out some of my classmates in Calculus I, II, III and Advanced Engineering Mathematics. I also have a background in MS Office products, JMP (statistical software application), MATLAB, Python, C# and C++ programming.
If you're struggling, please contact me. You'll like the results. I'm friendly, caring and have a real passion for teaching. I look forward to working with you! My son was very happy with what he learned today John explained things clearly and made it simple. Looking forward to the next lesson. It took some stress off of him to know he has someone who can help explain something he didn't understand in class. Thanks
John was great with my son who now feels mor confident in Physics. He was patient and very professional and my son really worked well with him. So glad we selected John.
John was very quick to understand both of my daughters level of understanding of various math concepts (pre-Math III and pre-calculus), uncovered trouble spots and provided very good explanations, as well as go forward methods to solve similar problems in the future.
John came in with a clear plan and provided the direction that we were looking for to get our son working toward success in math and the SAT. His patience and articulate manner made our decision easy about which tutor was right for us.
John is always quick to respond to a message. It is difficult to find time to fit everything in with a busy teenager; and John is flexible when scheduling conflicts arise. He is willing to work with my student on special projects- all I had to do was ask; and they already have a plan in place!
John knows his stuff inside and out. He tutored me in Calculus II and never once did he look at a problem and have to think about how to solve. As a good tutor should, he always encourages the student to think through the problem on their own and offers insight and shows technique when needed; rather than solving the problem for you and just showing you what you need to do. I would recommend John to anyone who needs help with math.
John D was able to quickly help me study for my Calculus 2 test. John was clear, concise, and very encouraging. Glad I found him, and that he made sure I was comfortable with the material.
My son is a good student but has struggled with SAT/ACT. We were so lucky to find John. After only two meetings there is already much more confidence in the air. John is knowledgeable about the testing process and has been very prepared each session. The thing I like the most is homework is part of the process. He isn't being force-fed facts. He is learning why he didn't score well before. I will admit I was cautious about finding someone online but after the first meeting I have been more than pleased. I cannot wait to see the improvement when my son trys the SAT again in the Fall.
John is very knowledgable in the structure of the SAT. Our son had taken the SAT twice and really struggled with it and dreaded it. He needed to improve his scores and learn how to take the test. After the very first session our son felt more confident in taking the SAT again. After his last session with John he was actually excited to take the test again. He is confident and ready to tackle it thanks to John. Our son said he has never had an educator take such a vested interest in his success. Excellent rapport with our son, he knew how to approach his learning style, reasoning style, and his test taking skills then apply them to the SAT format. John was able to explain how the test was designed, what they were looking for and how to approach the questions and answers. John was always easy to work with, on time, and went above and beyond our expectations and I am confident that his SAT scores will reflect that.
John did a great job tutoring my son in college physics. He really helped my son work out difficult complex physics problems.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
ACT Science, reading, and math teacher for four years at Huntington Learning Centers.
Four years working with calculus students at Huntington Learning Center. Practicing electrical engineer. Currently have two B/C calculus students.
I took MTH243 at the University of Rhode Island and got an A. I also currently teach D.E. as a tutor at a learning Center in Greensboro.
I have a BS in Electrical Engineering and work as an electrical engineer. I am working on an MSEE in my spare time at NC State. I specialize in digital and analog circuits, feedback control systems and microprocessor programming.
As an electrical engineering student, I had to take several calculus-based physics classes ranging from Newtonian physics to acoustics and optics to electromagnetics to modern physics. I worked at Huntington Learning Center for five years working as a calculus and physics tutor.
I've taught ACT, SAT and SSAT for four years at Huntington Learning Centers in Greensboro.
