Born, reared and educated in Texas and worked in the domestic and foreign minerals and petroleum industry for 40 years; 25 of which were overseas in Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait, India and Dubai. I am now living in the Greensboro area and plan to teach geology at the community college level, along with tutoring of science and math on a one-to-one basis part-time.
Although I do not have a teaching certificate, I have taught many in-house courses to entry-level geology professionals for foreign countries in Indonesia, China and India. In addition, I was responsible for the continuing education program for earth science professionals within ARCO Indonesia for six years.
I minored in math while majoring in geology at UT Arlington. I have 24 hours of college level math courses in addition to more than 50 hours of geology courses in undergraduate and graduate school.
I have a passion for earth science and have had a gratifying career working in the petroleum industry. I try to take the pain out of learning science and, using my career as a basis, make the subject fun and memorable. Having worked with many young foreign graduates with geology degrees and limited English skills, I try to simplify and use pictures to make the subject interesting to the student.
I am available at all hours to fit your schedule and make learning science easier than in a crowded classroom situation. I am very patient, a good listener and judge of character and enjoy laughing because I can find humor in most subjects. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
